What Are the Biggest Termite Risk Factors? Phoenix / Scottsdale Termites

In Phoenix and Scottsdale Termites are a huge problem for homeowners! What can you do to reduce your termite risk factors?

Phoenix and Scottsdale termites are a never ending problem for homeowners. We are often asked what you can do to reduce your risk factors for getting termites. here is a couple ideas to keep those pesky home eaters away.

Moisture is a  bug termite risk factor. having moisture right next to your home gives the colony easy access to everything they need. They get their moisture from the ground, where they live, and they get their food from the wood in your home. Having moisture from drips, leaks, or plants too close to the foundation of your house is very enticing for termites. Try to keep plants, especially the moisture from plants at least 2-3 feet away from the foundation of your home.

Shrubs against the foundation of your house can provide moisture for a termite colony.

Early detection is a big advantage if you do get an infestation. Our customers get a free check up with every service. But when the foundation is blocked by debris, shrubs, weeds, or items stacked against the house, this can not only make the treatment less effective or difficult to complete, but can prevent your technician from seeing signs of Scottsdale termites. This is another reason why it’s important to keep shrubs and other plants away from the foundation of your home.

Ant and Termite Treatment- Phoenix / Scottsdale Termites

In Phoenix and Scottsdale Termites and ants are an ongoing concern for homeowners!

Some of the same methods can control Phoenix and Scottsdale Termites and Ants. Sometimes a Termite treatment can have the added benefit of controlling ants inside and outside the home as well. In this featured video I’ll show you how a termite treatment can not only protect a home from ants, but may even run the entire colony out of town for good!

When we do a treatment for Phoenix and Scottsdale Termites we inject and saturate the ground around the foundation of the home with a termiticide that insects can’t tell is bad for them. The advantage to this is that the termites, and ants when they are in the treated area, go about their usual business not knowing that anything is wrong. They get the termiticide on them, and also transfer it to others in the colony that may not have come in contact with it initially.

In the video you see the ants “heading for the hills” so to speak, with their young. This is not a response from the chemical, but rather it is a flood response that is usually triggered during heavy rain. They are heading for higher ground to form a new colony there. Little do they realize that they will all soon be dead.

Termite Treatment Overview – Phoenix Termites & Scottsdale Termites

Phoenix termites and Scottsdale termites are some of the most prolific wood destroying insects in the country!

Phoenix termites and Scottsdale termites require a very specific type of treatment. In this article we will look at a basic overview of what that treatment looks like. Keep in mind that every subterranean termite treatment is different and that some require more or alternate types of treatment than what is discussed here. Your Phoenix termite or Scottsdale termite specialist will know what treatments you need and  let you know.

Before we get into the treatment it’s important to know a few basics about Subterranean Termites. As their name implies, these nasty little home eating critters live underground. They get all the moisture they need from the dirt around your home. But they get their nourishment from the wood in your home. So they have to travel from the ground to your home and back to the ground approximately every 24 hours. This is important to know because a lot of folks like to know why the ground around the home needs to be treated when the termites are eating the house itself.

When we treat for Phoenix termites or Scottsdale Termites we have to saturate the ground around the entire foundation of the house. for a lot of the perimeter of the home trenches are dug against the foundation in order to pour the proper amount of liquid treatment into the ground and saturate it thoroughly. Then the dirt dug up from the trench is saturated and replaced. Finally the rocks are put back over the the trenched area to make it look good as new.

When the termites return to the earth around the home they return to treated dirt. They cannot tell that the dirt is treated because the product is non-repellent. So the damaging little rascals go about their business in the ground, rubbing against others and transferring the product from one to the next. Eventually the entire colony is destroyed in this way. This is, of course, a slow process but a very effective one at eliminating the entire problem and preventing new ones for years to come.

But what about the earth underneath a patio? Actually any place where a concrete pour meets the main slab of your home, like most patios, porches, and inside many garages, needs to be treated too. To do this we usually need to drill holes in the concrete to get to the earth underneath. Then product is injected into those holes and then the holes are patched. a lot of folks ask if its really necessary to drill holes in the garage or patio when the concrete slabs are so close together. In the following video valley termite expert Jeromy West shows how small a space Scottsdale termites and Phoenix termites can use to get from the ground to the wood in the house.

Termites use “mud” tubes to get from the safety of the earth to the wood that they need to eat. These tubes aren’t actually made of mud as the name may imply, but rather they are made of celulose from They do this because they don’t do well in the open air. as you could see in the video these tubes can squeeze through some very small spaces, making the thoroughness of a treatment paramount.

Termite tubes can go through some very tight spaces.
