With the relatively warm winter and spring we’ve just had, Phoenix and Scottsdale Scorpion Control are shaping up to be a wild ride this year!

In Phoenix and Scottsdale scorpion control is always serious business, but in years after a warm winter, and almost no spring to mention, scorpion activity can ramp up very quickly! And it may concern that scorpions will be bad this year!

As a general rule, I like to use new accounts as a way to gauge scorpion activity. During this last winter, I had new accounts from scorpion infestations every month of winter and into spring. This means that the scorpions didn’t even take their semi-customary winter break from terrorizing valley residents. And, more importantly, it means that they have had an almost uninterrupted, long breeding season.

Just today I did the first service for some folks who have been seeing a lot of baby scorpions. This means that the scorpion season has officially started, even though it never really ended this time.

What to Watch For

These. Watch for these.

A lot of folks ask me what to watch for in order to determine when they should start a Phoenix and Scottsdale scorpion control program. We’ll get to when in a minute.

Scorpions, just like their family members in the wild, enjoy being in areas that are the least like the burning desert as they can find. This means they’re looking for shade, moisture, bugs to eat, and protection from predators (like exterminators). If you have areas around your home that offer shade for a lot if the day, retain moisture, and offer protection to scorpions and their table fare, you need to check these areas or have a professional check them.

If you see crickets, and roaches and other bugs around your home, you essentially have a free buffet for scorpions. I don’t know about you, but if I had a free buffet in my area, I’d be there every day!

When is the Best Time to Start Scorpions Control?

Folks that aren’t already on a regular pest control scheduled service often ask when the best time is to start Phoenix and Scottsdale scorpion control services. Well, the answer is about two months ago. Yeah, I know. You don’t have a Delorian OR a flux capacitor so starting two months ago is not an option for you.

Well, I have good news for you, the second-best time to start is RIGHT NOW! It’s so cliche but it’s true. If you live in or near an area with scorpions you need to start your Phoenix and Scottsdale scorpion control program BEFORE you start seeing scorpions. Prevention is the key to living much more happily this summer.

Scorpion problems that are left to grow into the dog days of summer can take more time to get under control. The higher the numbers of scorpions get, the higher chance they have of getting inside your home!

It’s important to recognize that scorpions are one of the toughest pests to kill. So this means that we need to use absolutely everything in our toolbox that can help to control them. We recommend starting with a complete crack and crevice flush out as well as a foundation flush. We also recommend adding a full dusting the first time to really attack the scorpions where they live!

How Often Should I Have Service?

For a light scorpion infestation, I recommend a Bi-monthly service. Having service every two months, after a very thorough initial service, can take care of most light to moderate infestations.

Heavy infestations should be treated every month in order to keep the scorpion population low and stay on top of the problem. Folks who live in more natural desert areas like up against a mountain or preserve usually need monthly service to keep things under control. When you live that close to their natural habitat, you have to stay diligent. Otherwise, scorpions will be bad this year.
